The juxtaposition of man’s angled structures and nature’s soft textures is intrinsic to my work, as well as acknowledgement to a life flavoured with the different rules and customs of far away cultures.
Drawing has always been included in my practice and not necessarily for preparatory studies for painting. I enjoy the spontaneous creativity.
Work exhibited here are selections from two distinct bodies of work by Maltby; Landscape Unearthed and Venerating The Vessel.
In Landscape Unearthed, Maltby remembers her 35 years in Zimbabwe, with little physical documentation at her disposal to inspire and remind, we see here a reflection of the spirit of the space in her memories and it is the landscape that dominates those thoughts and remembrances.

In Venerating The Vessel, Maltby, inspired by the book of Leviticus, explores the dynamics within human relationships and through a landscape of rituals, purity laws and territorial divisions Maltby addresses our own imperfections.
