Joyce Pinch was born in Derby but has spent most of her life living in the Cotswolds. She studied art at Redland College, Bristol and has taught art for most of her life. Joyce now lectures part time in Art and Design at the University of the West of England in the faculty of Education.
Her recent work is centered mostly around natural forms experimenting with scale and colour.
"I am profoundly influenced by my immediate surroundings and much of my subject matter is locally sourced.
Still Life is my chosen theme which is a genre that depicts natural and unmoving objects that I have personally selected, removed them from their usual context and placed them in a composition and arrangement which invites the viewer to take a new look and to take pleasure in what they see.
The feeling that I am endeavouring to create is a combination of the fragility and brittleness of the found natural objects and to experiment with scale and form."
