After studying history of art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, Rose stayed in the art
world for many years, working as a picture specialist for Phillips Auctioneers, and as
an art historian writing about the arts. Rose moved from historian to artist some 10
years ago and is now carving a formidable reputation as an outstanding sculptor.
When Rose models animals in wax or clay, later to be cast in bronze, she is after the
flash of movement, gone in an instant. The human form fascinates, and human
relationships inspire her. As a mother, Rose is attracted to the bond between parent
and child, and the inevitable melting together this bond effects.
Rose works in two ways with stone. At once she is inspired by the stone itself, its
shape, the pits, crevices, cracks and lumps in it. Rose allows the stone to show the
way; the form emerging as extraneous material is removed never forgetting it is still a
piece of stone and for this reason she often leave parts of the material untouched. At
other times it is the concept that drives her to search for the perfect stone to
transform it into her unique narrative. Often this process takes months to find the
perfect piece to communicate her concept.
Rose’s Work exhibits nationally and undertakes private and public commissions.
